The surprisingly lighter weather lately has meant that we’ve been able to hit up some playgrounds. It’s been a nice change. Our errands to get our haircut meant we had the chance to try out a new park – Garrett Road Park – over by Hope Valley Commons.
Hope Valley Baptist Church playground is still a favorite of ours in this neighborhood but I was looking for a playground where my 19 months old couldn’t climb to neck-breaking heights (as is his tendency). Garrett Road Park was nice.
There is a lot of shade here. There isn’t much for older kids – a “Spiderman” climbing web, a tire swing, a little spaceship structure set a little further off. But I did love that there was a big natural area for the kids to run around. In one corner someone has built a lovely teepee made of large sticks. Plus, as I mentioned, this was really nice for my toddler.
This is RIGHT next to Garrett Road so the noise is considerable but it is completely fenced off. It’s not dangerous and my toddler loved waving at all the cars going by, but it can be loud.
There is a lake at this park and, while fenced off from the kiddos, the fence is broken in one part so I had to keep an eye on my littlest explorer to make sure he didn’t climb through the hole. But all the boys in our group had a lot of fun throwing sticks over the fence in to the lake.
