From Sarah C.:
If you have a child that loves to build, Home Depot has the workshop for you. Their Kids Workshop is offered on the first Saturday of each month and is entirely free.
We visited for the October Kids Workshop where our son built a small plane. The kit handed to him when we entered included several wood pieces, nails, stickers, and plastic wheels & pegs along with simple directions. Provided on the tables were hammers, wood glue, sand paper and goggles.
This particular kit, the instructions included painting some pieces. Our Home Depot didn’t provide paint which was okay (I did see some on social media that did). My son loves art projects and we have plenty of paint at home so, to me, that just means this project will provide extra entertainment another day. A win-win.
With the completion of each project, your child receives a pin to add to the free apron they get at their first Kids Workshop. The pins feature an image of the completed project. Do be aware that they are pins and could be tricky with small children if they are interested in unhooking them (we had a dropped pin back twice during the car ride home and finally took it away).
The Kids Workshops are geared toward kids ages 5-12, but all ages are welcome. Just be prepared to offer extra help if your child is a bit younger. Visit the website (linked below) to view upcoming Kids Workshops and register.
